This edition of the Australian and International Journal of Rural Education (AIJRE) heralds a change of editorial board and celebrates the 30th year of the Society for the Provision of Education in Rural Australia (SPERA). As you are aware, the AIJRE is the primary scholarly publication of SPERA. It emanates from a group of committed and passionate people whose primary concern has been to raise the profile of, and attend to the issues surrounding those living and working in rural, regional and remote regions of Australia. The new editorial board would like to acknowledge those that have preceded them and honour their role in the development of AIJRE.
